Holter Monitor

holterA Holter monitor, also known as an ambulatory electrocardiography device, is a portable device designed to continually monitor the electrical activity of the heart for a period of 24 hours or more. Its ability to record data for an extended period of time is useful for observing occasional cardiac arrhythmias, that otherwise, in short period test would not be identified.

The Holter monitor records electrical signals from the heart with the use of electrodes that are attached to the patient’s chest. Most Holter monitors use between three to eight electrodes in different positions, which are connected to a small data recording device attached to the patient’s belt or in a case on a strap worn across the chest.
